Cryptology

Cryptology is the science and practice of securing data using cryptography and cryptanalysis methods. The word “cryptology” means the hidden word. Therefore in order to hide the actual word, cryptology tools are used to transform the world.

There consists of two parts to the cryptology field. It is an umbrella term for cryptography and cryptanalysis:

• Cryptography:  Cryptography is the subtopic of cryptology. In cryptography, data is encrypted to become ciphers, and then they decipher the data with the key that only the authorized people can have and use. In cryptography, there are many methods to encrypt and decrypt data. For example, if the encryption uses a different key for decryption, in other words, two unique keys are used for the cryptographic processes of data; it is called asymmetrical key cryptography. In this type of cryptography, the operation speed is slow, but the data has high privacy.

With the combination of computing power, these technologies form the basis of modern cryptography. This modern cryptography is the foundation of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.

• Cryptanalysis: Cryptanalysis differs from cryptography with one essential point. The key is not existent in cryptanalysis, and the encrypted data is deciphered without a key.

Why Is Cryptology Important?

The cryptology practices are used to hide the actual message from third parties. Especially in cryptography, there are many ways to create a cipher, such as using the same key for both processes. This method is fast compared to the asymmetrical method, but the privacy of the data is in more danger. This type of method is called symmetrical key cryptography.

Creating a solid cipher for privacy

Using mathematical algorithms that are hard to decipher to strengthen your message is critical if you want to create a secure cipher. However, computing power plays a heavy role in interpreting the data. In cryptanalysis, supercomputers decipher the messages without requiring a key. These computers try every possible combination to unravel the actual code from the ciphertext.
