Bitcoin Pizza
Bitcoin Pizza is named after the first known physical goods transaction from Bitcoin. The buyer Laszlo Hanyecz purchased pizza to show the world that Bitcoin can be used for purchasing real-life goods. He came up with the idea and decided to buy a pizza because he thought that the pizza was known and liked by everyone.
The History of the Most Expensive Pizza
The transaction to buy two large pizzas took place on May 22, 2010, and was started from the post in the Bitcoin forum named “Bitcointalk.” On May 18, 2010, the programmer Laszlo Hanyecz posted a trade deal saying, “I’ll pay 10,000 bitcoins for a couple of pizzas”. Then he finds a volunteer to provide pizza. The user nicknamed “jercos” called the Papa John’s in Jacksonville, Florida, from Europe and ordered two large pizzas for Hanyecz. After that, Hanyecz shared pictures of his pizza to announce that the transaction was completed successfully in the forum. At the time they ordered, two pizzas were worth around 25 Dollars in May 2010. The restaurant that made the Bitcoin pizza also displays this event and calls themselves “Makers of the famous Bitcoin pizzas” on a wooden plaque.
